VERIFAST System. Vertical-flow paper-based assay

In partnership with the University of Arizona bioscience team, we engineered a portable diagnostic solution capable of easily, quickly, and accurately detecting tier-one infectious diseases and biological threats on the battlefield.

Leveraging ANBM's innovative vertical flow immunoassay, we engineered a complete diagnostic workflow from blood vial processing through automated image capture to deliver definitive positive/negative results. Our mission: create a fully self-contained system intuitive enough for non-technical operators to deploy confidently in critical field conditions.

The Challenge.

Rapid field detection of tier-one infectious diseases for soldiers and first responders

ANBM's vertical flow immunoassay diagnostic test that interfaces with a smartphone required a device to process blood vials, capture diagnostic images, and deliver pass/fail results via mobile app. While this works well in controlled lab settings, adapting it for harsh field environments was the key challenge presented to us. The solution needed to be fully ruggedized and self-contained while remaining simple enough for non-technical operators to use effectively.

Our Approach.

We designed a flexible, modular system anticipating future testing and development needs through collaboration with ANBM. Components were strategically positioned in accessible zones for easy team maintenance, with interface elements designed for revision without major system disruption. A high-performance, hot-swappable power source ensures reliable operation in rugged field conditions while maintaining the system's self-contained design. This collaborative, modular approach enables seamless transition between field deployment and laboratory development environments.

Our Solution.

We delivered two fully functional field-deployable MVP prototypes integrating ANBM's vertical flow immunoassay technology with smartphone connectivity. The system mounts to an SKB platform and includes centrifuge, syringe pump, imaging optics, and intuitive controls designed for use in controlled laboratories or downrange operations. Hot-swappable battery packs ensure extended field operation while modular architecture enables future upgrades. The self-contained platform eliminates infrastructure dependency and delivers immediate pass/fail results with secure data logging.

This solution transforms laboratory-grade diagnostic accuracy into a portable system capable of protecting soldiers and first responders through rapid tier-one disease detection in any operational environment.

Bridging the gap between laboratory precision and frontline protection.
